Start with the right council
Maidstone Borough Council and Kent County Council provide different services. The borough council is the starting point for matters such as waste collection, council tax, planning and housing. Kent County Council covers services including highways, libraries and social care.
Some places in the directory’s practical catchment have a different borough council. Aylesford, for example, is in Tonbridge and Malling rather than Maidstone borough. Use your actual address to find the responsible authority, and contact a village parish council for matters within its local remit.
Community spaces and local activities
The Howard De Walden Centre offers a neighbourhood venue on Bluett Street, while Maidstone YMCA provides sports, wellbeing and community activities. Halls in places such as Bearsted, Barming, Grove Green and Boughton Monchelsea support other groups and gatherings close to where people live.
Check the organiser’s current timetable before attending a class or meeting. A venue may host several independent groups, each with its own booking process, contact person and participation arrangements. For room hire, explain the type of event, likely numbers and any access requirements.
Support, connection and volunteering
Involve Kent is a useful starting point for community connections, support and volunteering across the area. Blackthorn Trust runs a health and community hub in Barming, with a garden, workshops and other activities. These organisations provide different services, so use their own information to find the route that matches your needs.
If you would like to help, ask about current volunteering opportunities and the commitment or training involved. Local charities, halls and clubs often need practical support behind the scenes as well as people to help at events.
