Kent’s county town beside the Medway
Maidstone is Kent’s county town, with the River Medway running beside its historic centre. All Saints Church and the Archbishops’ Palace form a distinctive riverside setting, while the shopping streets, offices and neighbourhoods support the everyday life of a busy working town.
This directory covers Maidstone and nearby places including Allington, Barming, Bearsted, Loose, Coxheath and the Farleighs. We also include useful neighbouring areas such as Aylesford. A Maidstone postal address can cover a wider area than the town itself, so check the actual base and service area on each business profile.
Finding your way around the centre
Week Street connects the Maidstone East end of town with the High Street. Earl Street is a useful starting point for restaurants and the Hazlitt Theatre, while Gabriel’s Hill leads down towards The Mall. Fremlin Walk and the smaller lanes around Market Buildings add different shopping routes within a compact central area.
Down by the river, the Archbishops’ Palace and All Saints Church help put the town’s older history in context. Maidstone Museum is in the former Chillington Manor beside Brenchley Gardens, providing a different heritage stop near the northern end of the shopping streets.
Neighbourhoods, villages and journeys
Mote Park is a substantial green space east of the centre, with its lake, paths and places for an outdoor break. Neighbourhoods such as Penenden Heath, Grove Green, Shepway, Park Wood and Tovil have their own local services, rather than everything being concentrated on the High Street.
Maidstone East, Maidstone West and Maidstone Barracks are separate railway stations serving different journey patterns. Check which station suits your route and destination. For a village appointment or work at home, confirm the business’s location, parking or visit arrangements before travelling.
